What is a racist?

No you are not a racist Kate, I don't think I know anyone that is a racist but we see it in the media all the time now so people think it's ok to accuse others without any foundation what so ever. Anyone that reads your posts here will know know you have no ill intent towards anyone so forget about other peoples accusations and contiue to keep us entertained.

Wow - this is a complex one. I liken it to bullying in a way in that if you perceive you are being bullied, wither physically or mentally - then you are. I believe for whatever reason you believe a comment is racially motivated then that could be construed as an racist comment. I also believe context has a big part to play. I've heard - in films, 2 black characters calling eachother the 'N" word - yet it is not meant as a racist comment, just a term, but another person , say someone watching the film could feel it was racist and take offence. Hence thats why I think context has a big part to play.

And no Kate I don't think you are a racist at all based on your posts. Sometimes the race card is an easy one to play.

There is also a generation here and in the UK , and I've heard it, 'working like a bl..k'. Do they believe they are racist - no, would others consider it such then yes. Confused ! Yes its a complex one where most 'decent' people wouldn't consider themselves racist - but are we all a littlle bit prejudiced in someway.

In my opinion the term racism gets softened up by media and overuse .
There are two ways to be a racist , openly or hidden , the hidden one just seems to be accepted by people as " not real " racism !
When one declines the service of a black doctor its rasist , when one changes the seat in a bus because someone not his race is taking a seat beside you its rasist , clearly !
But a lot of peolpe seem to think its fine to beat on minorities for taken "theyr " jobs and collecting benefits , its just an opinion !
How do you call someone who tells you at a property viewing the flat is taken when 10minutes earlier he told you over the phone the place is available , cause on the phone he didnt see you are black ?
How do you call somebody who is pointing fingers at the only minority in the room when she cant find her cellphone just to remember later she left it in the car and excuses her action with " oh who else whould I suspect , we all know they do such stuff " and everybody just nods !
Its racism , no matter how hidden or sutle ! Its bad !

And no kate you are no racist !

I have to admit that I didn't read the whole 'true independent thread'. There was a thread not so long ago where I guy said he was annoyed that so many girls refuse his business because he's Eastern European. I posted on that thread, & I stand by what I said, as escorts it's up to each individual girl who she accepts business off. Just because we're escorts, does not mean that we have to accept business off every guy that rings. If a girl refuses to accept business from someone, I dont think we should have to justify our reasons for doing so. I'm not racist but I dont accept business from every guy that rings me for several reasons. Our bodies = Our Choice.

That whole racist comment was a hysterical flare thrown by the OP to deflect from the argument at hand. Anyone with sense can see Kate is not a racist. Some people just hate getting bested at debateing and when they can no longer use logic (shaky at best) they resort to histrionics and name calling.

I would say there are different kind of racism and discrimination, but in my view, a racist is someone that does not accept differences, no matter what they are.

Thats not illegal. Racism is. Your entitled to not accept differences no matter what they are. Its when you force those differences on the other in a way that contravenes their basic rights as human beings is when it becomes racism.
