  1. Default Sex laws around the world...

    [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]I've learned-

that it’s hard to determine where to draw the line between being nice and not hurting people’s feelings, and standing up for what you believe.

    Thanks Nikita.

The article is from a Canadian paper and it's interesting to see that Canada is only rated somewhere in the middle, as I have always thought of Canada as a fairly liberal and fair country.

And what's more surprising is that this is only after the recent high court ruling in Canada which should make things far eaiser for escorts:

The Ontario Court of Appeal’s decision Monday deeming parts of Canada’s anti-prostitution laws unconstitutional plants our country “in about the middle” of industrialized nations, said University of Toronto law professor Brenda Cossman

I certainly hope that the current review on legislation governing prostitution in Ireland, will see sense and make things more fair for escorts like they have done in Canada, rather than turning the clock back to the dark ages and sending us in the same direction as Sweden, Norway and Iceland.

Well, they can do things better for us, harder for customers. Seeing it that way, they can say "escorts are helped, escorts are protected" , when it is not illegal to sell sex...

Sorry, to lazy to quote, Morpheus..

Which of course you and I know Rachel is a load of bullshit!!

If they hurt escorts clients, they will hurt escorts! Which is why Ruhama are playing such a dangerous and deceptive game. They tell the public that they want to help escorts, when their only real goal is to eradicate escorting from Ireland and have a whole group of women that have no where else to go but to them!!

I don't know why, particularly now, but something ripped loose in me in the past few days...however it began, whyever the specific individuals got involved in the first place, the instigators of "Turn Off the Red Light" literally DO NOT CARE how many lies they tell or people they harm now.

...and they are *NOT* stupid or naive, the know EXACTLY how much harm they will do, but they just do not care as long as the very few people they need to ensure their continued funding are forced to engage with them by hardship as a result of the legislation they demand.

Look at the way they even talk about sex workers, dripping with contempt and condescension, as if we were pound puppies, not people at all.

Everything they say is an excuse to demand the power to harass and impose upon sex workers...the VERY thing they pretend to stand against. All it is is thinly veiled bullying and it has gone on FAR too long.

No, it's going to take much longer than that Nikita.

The Review of legislation on prostitution was announced a couple of months ago.

There was a period of public consultation when people could write in (and many of us did) - which is now over.

Then there was a conference where pro and con speakers were invited (presumably by the committe set up by the minister for justice).

And now the committee set up by the minister for justice has to write up their report and then submit it to the miniter himself (Alan Shatter).

As far as recall, they deadline mentioned for them to finish their report is the end of this year. The Minister will then present it to cabinet (in the new year).

Any changes in legislation will probably take at least until the summer to be enacted.

And knowing how slowly legislation change takes, I suspect nothing wil happen until this time next year.

But this is all my personal interpretation of the timeline, who knows how slowly or fast the government will actually work on this.

Being a pessimist, I'd rather it take as long as possible, because I think the politicians will want to throw a bone to Ruhama and co. I just hope it's a small bone and not what they've actually asked for - which is the further enslavement of women in the sex industry to them.
