I posted on another thread. How can I be treated as a criminal when by law I do nothing against it?

I do not only talk to clients over the phone, also I do talk with family and friends, nobody has to listen to my conversations.

If selling sex is not a crime, why would I be treated like a criminal ?

As about the funds no, Ireland doesnt have them.
Afraid that is what we are coming to, with stupid leglestation to appease a minority.
How else could they prove anything if all i asked you was, could i meet you 8pm, and did not have a discussion about anything else.
How else would they not know that you might be my sister,my niece, my daughter or a family friend.
Yes there would be phone tapping.

They certainly won't. They had to pay out a woman €70,000 in compensation for trespass, breach of a constitutional right and defamation a few years back (not a sex worker, but principle still applies).

It's a waste of resources, and reminds me of the hilarious scene from Goodfellas where the FBI have to switch off the monitoring of the phone call when it sounds like a personal conversation which their warrant doesn't cover.

It has to be the height of irony that the experiences of Pye Jakobsson (and by extension the sex workers of Sweden) were deemed important enough that she be invited to Ireland, sharing a platform on equal footing with the CEO of Ruhama after said person opted not to meet with sex workers at all when visiting Sweden on what was supposedly a fact finding mission.

At the conference , Pye opted for not a personal approach , as she thought people are interested to hear on the big picture/facts.
Her speech was great and she is an amazing person. She did stay until the end of the event , listening and she gave her opinion on Swedish sex trade every time she could speak.

My question. Should EI not also take part in these events, being the biggest 'player' in the industry in Ireland ?

-Ruhama and feminist group do not agree with this site

I am sure a lot of work is done behind the scenes from E-I on escorting/punting behalf .
I strongly agree with Rachel on this one Mellors. She is dead right about the stance that Ruhama/The immigrant council/ and the rest of he TORL take towards E-I. They class E-I on the same level as the pimps and organised criminals, which is of course nonsense, but reflects an ingrained attitude that will be difficult to change.

The fact that we discuss all the legislative change issues on the E-I forum, is positive enough for me of E-I's support. Not to mention the sexwork.ie site. (Legal disclaimer: I'm not suggesting in an way, shape of form, that E-I is behind that excellent webisite!)
    http://sexwork.ie/

So I think it's wise that E-I offcially stayed out of the conference itself.

The strongest voices against any further criminalization are the voices of independant escorts. And who knows, but at the conference they may actually have talked sense into the powers that be, so that any changes to the legislation may be in their favour instead.
