Default Escort agency appeals to government

POLITICIANS considering putting the squeeze on prostitutes have been urged to back off — by a leading escort agency.
TDs and senators mulling over new laws to outlaw punters paying for sex have even been invited to visit the offices of Escort Ireland.

The web firm banged in a lengthy appeal to the Leinster House committee looking at a legal shake-up.

Their submission states: “We believe there is nothing wrong with someone paying for sexual services and most clients are decent people.
“We don’t think adults should be prosecuted for privately paying other consenting adults for sex.” Escort Ireland, which by-passes a ban on advertising sex services by operating from the UK, warned against driving the business underground. They added: “We feel the views of sex workers are the views that need to be heard more than any others.”

Justice and Equality Committee member and Fine Gael TD David Stanton said: “The committee should be careful about what weight it affords certain submissions like this one.

“There are all sorts of people involved in prostitution and they have their own agendas.”

But committee colleague and Independent TD Finian McGrath said: “I am opposed to anyone who profits from prostitution but their views have to be taken into account.”

Around 1,000 women are offered for sex every day through the internet in Ireland.

I love these quotes, so in other words according to FG TD Stanton every lady involved in escorting has their own agenda, I'm sorry but to me behind his words it comes across as they are all criminals .

McGrath is also against escorts but at least he seems willing to listen

If all sides are listened to, it's a step further to getting some common sense into the debate. The sex industry is not as 'black & white' as Rhumna make it out to be. Thank god the government are now willing to take on board the views of those working DIRECTLY in the sex industry instead of just listening to an organisation wanting to make a sweeping generalisation that everyone involved in the sex industry are 'trafficked'. Rhumna's notions of the sex industry are far from the truth.

    Usual muck from the Sun
"Around 1000 women are offeredfor sex everyday through the internet in Ireland."
Implication being that none of them have any choice.
There is nothing worse for the lying soul than the mirror of reality

Pfft, according to the Sunday Times the "lengthy" appeal was only seven pages, even much shorter than mine and light years shorter than that 77 page submission which I heard went in.

If anyone really does feel strong about the issue, I suggest contacting (even using an alias) TDs on the Committee who don't have their minds made up such as Independents and small parties.

i think you are taking FG TD Stanton's comment up a little wrong. i think what was ment by that comment was that people or companys such as e-i have their own agenda and they do they want to protect their income as any company would.

Ladies and gentlemen, let's not think for one minute that escorting will be legalised in Ireland. It will never happen, if you think it will, you are in denial. Regardless what we may think, this country is a strong catholic state and this bureaucracy takes precedent. What would we look like internationally, if we were granted a license to keep this business active! Holy be to God! What are the Irish doing, first St Patrick, then the leprechauns, a pot of gold, the four leaf clover and now Irish Escorts (legalised). We need a contingency plan and I would be surprised if EI haven't come up with one! We already know our laws will not permit this type of business being promoted through an Irish (ie) web site, hence .com! The law will never stop consenting aldults from getting together, but can't be seen promoting this. We have been lucky enough to date, that they have turned a blind eye to this industry...

It's the luck of the Irish

With regards to a contingency plan one of the first things you'd do as a punter is get acquainted with services such as https://www.privatetunnel.com/index.php?referral=OPENVPN so that any block an Irish ISP would be forced to introduce would be circumvented. It's also a possibility that ISPs would be required to keep logs of the customer IP addresses accessing sites such as E-I, again services such as the above renders attempts at logging pointless.

If I were a new escort starting out there's two things I'd never do - (A) Show my face in my photos. (B) I'd never publicly display my phone number, I would only accept bookings from verified clients via other escorts.
