    Smile Paralympics

I was going to post this a day or so ago but decided I’d hold back and see if anyone else mentioned it so here I am. I suppose I should have posted this in the disabled section also but I decided against as no one seems to bother reading anything in there so it would just get lost.

Anyway, with the Paralympics finally underway I was wondering is there many here that will watch them? Have you watched any this morning and if so what you guys think?

For anyone not familiar with the Paralympics I promise you you will be surprised at how good some of the spots are. Watch out for the wheelchair rugby or as it’s sometimes called “murder ball” you will be shocked just how physical it is.

I’m absolutely stunned at how good Channel 4’s coverage appears to be, its almost as good as BBC’s coverage of the able bodied games, its on all day and there’s coverage on their sister channels like 4More. Makes a massive change compared to years gone by when you might get a 30 second clip of an athlete doing well at the end of the news.

I have watched the cycling men's indoor pursuit James came 4th in the qualifier and looks good for a bronze, that's honestly the only thing I've seen so far. I will watch the basketball for sure and it does get very physical, honestly the athletes are unbelievably fit more than most abled people that's for sure.

Does anyone remember the South Park episode where Cartman pretends he is disabled to get into the special Olympics so he can win...yet finishes last in everything??

Total respect....they are athletes in their own right, not just disabled athletes

not seen it myself but they got slated on all sides for their opening ceremony coverage. something about interrupting the programme with ads all the time. obviously the bbc dont have to do this.

many were giving out about john snow too. kept going on about civil wars and dead prime ministers from the reprsentative countries as they were doing the athletes parade. not enough focus on the competitiors themselves.

bit of a storm in a teacup methinks
    see you next tuesday

I see 11 million people watched the opening ceremony, channel 4's highest audience figure for over ten years. Enjoyed watching wheelchair basketball at the Beijing games and looking forward to seeing it again.

I watched the opening ceremony last night. I was looking all over the place for it. I presumed it was going to be on the red button on the bbc. I was surprised to see it on channel4 as they don't do sport that often. It's good it's on one of the main channels rather than hidden away on a red button or a BBC3/ITV4 type channel. I watched the cycling. It's just as exciting as in the Olympics. I'm also going to watch the rowing when it's on.
