I'd also heard this myself from a few sources. The proliferation of free downloading and streaming videos have made video and dvd sales/rentals go way down, and so the entire industry is suffering from it. There's less money for paying actors/actresses, production quality goes down, and this leads to bigger turn-over in an industry where the 'shelf-life' and career of most female starlets is pretty short to begin with.

I'd met a guy years ago in the U.S. who'd participated in doing a psychological study about the porn industry, and one of the interesting facts that he mentioned to me was that the average female porn actress working in Southern California's 'Porno Valley' earns approx $30,000 a year; that's barely a few thousand dollars above the poverty line in the U.S., and for the well-above the National average cost of living that it is in Southern California, it's barely scraping by. I've understand that quite a few starlets do in fact supplement their incomes by escorting or by doing national tours in lap dancing clubs. Even some of the biggest starlets from the industry in recent years have seemingly jumped over to escorting, as there's almost assuredly more money to be made in it, and I can understand why that's the case for them, as they've built-up a name and reputation for themselves; thus they have an essentially guaranteed client base!

There was a thread a few months ago mentioning the fact that even Amy Reid, a very popular lady in the porn business, is/was escorting in NYC. If even a girl as popular as her has turned to escorting, there doesn't seem to be much hope for the industry in the future...
