A women is telling Matt Cooper about the implications of criminalising the sex industry, saying that it will be pushed underground (like China) and nobody will know the situation. She is saying that it will still go on whether it is legal or not and arresting clients or escorts won't stop it. She is saying that the Swedish model does not work.

Another women is saying that men caught out usually fess up because they don't want it to go to court, so the Swedish model would be a good deterrent.

The second woman (in favour of criminalisation) is saying that murder hasn't been abolished, but basically it is not acceptable.

The first woman (not in favour of criminalisation) is saying that most women in the sex industry now chose to be in it. She is saying that if a client will be arrested, he will make sure that a woman will not recognise him once he attacks her.

Sigh. It's stomach turning, and they're probably going to get their way through sheer emotional clouding of the issues if they continue in this way. Obviously the escorts have their own views on the industry but surely TORL's agenda will not be a good thing for them and I can only hope that it won't make either their working lives or their real existence harder.

I know for many clients it will turn things on it's head and finish the more peripheral clients (such as myself) altogether, while also prompting a scramble to another jurisdiction two hours up the road, until similar lobbies in the UK try and impose their agenda on the basis of the implementation of the Swedish model in Ireland. Thankfully though the UK will be a harder battle as it's generally been more enlightened for a longer period of time. That will bring it's own consequences in an already saturated market up North.
