The two lads fron Coleraine did well in the rowing. Great to see people from this Island doing well for either Ireland or GB.

I'd have no trouble cheering for them, the British don't seem to have trouble cheering for Ireland.

I would have no trouble cheering for a Scottish team, A Welsh team, An English team etc, the very notion of GB is an amalgamation of countries that is a remnant of a long gone empire. The resonances from that are difficult to ignore. I have no problem with any British athlete winning, but the notion that GB the greater sum of all its parts is something that I find slightly oppressive, as it subsumes the individual nationalities into one that is largely English superiority. Sorry if this sounds offensive but that is my honest feelings. Well done to each of the athletes, and to all the athletes for reaching this standard.

A well thought out answer Doodles, yes the empire is long gone, but sure half of them are of Irish decent anyway so we are cheering on our own in a way, lol,I have always found the Brits to be decent folk so I have no problem in being glad to see them doing well, remember every nation have its fair share of raciests and thugs.

i no more cheer on a British athlete than I do a Nigerian athlete. I wish all athletes well regardless of nationality. I am not bound by some moral obligation to cheer on Team Gee Bee than I do any other. Team Ireland I will shout for and cheer. My country, my Ireland (Braveheart lol) Good luck to all but come on the boys and girls in green
