    Default Violence against women

In Greece in June, spokesperson for the far-right Golden Dawn party and one of it's 21 Members with seats in the Greek Parliament, Ilias Kasidiaris, threw a glass of water at one female opposition MP and slapped another female opposition MP three times across the face when she threw a newspaper at him on a live television panel discussion after one of the two women brought up a rumour of his alleged participation in an armed robbery some years previous.

Despite this, he was again elected to Parliament on June 17 and sits on the same committee with the two women he assaulted. In the wake of that event, he went into hiding to avoid being prosecuted after a warrant was issued for his arrest on the charge of assault, getting around Greece’s curious law which requires the apprehension of a suspect within 48 hours (WEIRDEST technicality ever). Instead of being arrested, Kasidiaris sued the women he assaulted and charged them with unprovoked verbal abuse.

So what are your thoughts on this particular high profile incident by politicians who could be role models for some? Or what are your thoughts on the issue in general? Can physical violence against a woman ever be justified?

Like all bullies, he's been missing a good beating. Someone twice his size should slap him around for a while. I doubt he'd like it too much. It's pretty disgraceful to hit anyone, hitting a woman is pretty fuckin' low though. Doing it on TV is the work of an imbecile. Strange laws out there in Greece too.

I think Greece is pretty much in political meltdown. Despite this incident, he was re-elected in the panic shuffle on June 17th. He's a former military commando with a history of alleged assaults on immigrants and left wing students too. He was detained in the TV studio while they called for the Police but broke the door down and escaped, subsequently alleging false imprisonment and defamation.

    Mad stuff.

That 48 hours to apprehend and charge a suspect is incredibly strange, I've never heard of anything like that before! And what he did (captured on camera no less) is totally inexcusable, and how he's not only managed to get away with it, let alone turn around and bring a lawsuit against the same ladies he physically assulted, but act as though he was the victim is simply shocking.

After doing a bit of rooting (which was subsequently confirmed by a BBC article on the incident), an arrest warrant for a minor offence is only valid for 48 hours in Greece with the objective of having it tried before the Courts quickly. When that's not possible it's referred onward and it takes a considerable time for a magistrate to set a trial date. None has yet been set for this case, but it at least shows that it may come before the Courts at some point.

In the intervening time he re-emerged from hiding after the warrant had expired and filed documents alleging defamation against the two women and for false imprisonment against the TV station.

I've said it before, I say it everyday and will continue to do so till the day I die. Neanderthals are not extinct! F*cking barbarians like this **** should be locked up. There is no justifiable reason (mostly) for a man to assault a woman in today's world. Anyone guilty of said offence ought to be locked up for a MINIMUM of 5 years.

I actually pray for the day that women are predominant in politics worldwide cos men only seem to f*ck things up even more.

any man who hits a woman is a lowlife.

now clearly you can have a woman like katie taylor who could lay out any man here!

in general you should never raise your hand to a woman.
