The longer I'm on Facebook, the more annoyed I get with it. Every time they come out with some kind of 'update', they give you the 'false choice' of voluntarily 'opting-in' (such as timeline), until they decide for you that you WILL have the update. I was just 'informed' by FB 2 days ago that from August 4, I will now have FB Timeline, something I think looks stupid and is set-up in a rather invasive way, but now there's no longer a choice as there had been in the last year or so since it was introduced. You will now have it or you won't, no discussion.

It kind of reminds me of the ridiculous facade of 'democracy' in a country with a one-party system. You might all remember that sometime back in 2002 before the invasion, Iraq had an 'election', where Saddam Hussein and his list of Ba'ath Party candidates were the ONLY ones on the ballot; so the people essentially had the 'choice' of voting for Saddam OR NO ONE.

In an allegedly 'free and open' internet, the real lack of choice as to how you engage in your social networking seems extremely limited (and limiting).
