Thread: Longford Council becomes a second lapdog for TORL

  1. Default Longford Council becomes a second lapdog for TORL

    http://www.thejournal.ie/longford-co...26157-Jul2012/

I notice they didn't mention any of the Councillors names who approved this motion, presumably because they know they will be voted out of office during the next local elections. Like the NCCRI, Denise Charlton is aware of the impending funding cuts for her organization. So like the NCCRI, she needs to do all she can before the organization folds.

The only question is whether Alan Shatter will make the wrong decision. Just like the decriminalization of homosexuality in 1993, I envisage the decriminalization of prostitution when the next government wins power. The current government is extremely unpopular at present and shrinking.

so wot wot denise charlton says above i am a criminal, so wot exactly is my crime
are they intending to make all people who have sex out of wedlock criminals to?

god its so nice to loose you human rights as soon as you put on stockings
Denise Charlton and her ilk would have a much harder time persuading politicians to do their bidding if the ladies of E-I would take advantage of such articles to publicly refute TORL's claims. The article has been live since Friday on the Journal's site, at present it has 49 comments not one of which is from anyone who identifies themselves as a sex worker. Since Masculine posted the link here it has received 257 views. I wonder how many of those viewers were escorts?

they say that want to stop pimps and trafficking which i think is a brilliant idea. But i think its going to push the sex trade totally underground and make it maybe dangerous for the true indie escorts. At the end of the day they will never stop the sex industry as this is the longest proffession in the book from decades. And instead of pushing it underground they should make more help available for pimped girls to get away from there pimps. Because if some one want to exploit some one to make money they will any way at any cost. this new law will cause more problems instead of helping it.

Mmmmm....human rights and stockings in the one sentence

This is motion is to be circulated to all local authorities and it's one of those ideal motions that needs absolutely no debate to get passed because it simply makes a nice little sound bite in the local newspapers for each Councillor to pontificate and say a few words (that they only learned a few minutes beforehand) about the evil of human trafficking taking place in "every town and village in the country".

I wonder how it would go if SWAI actually did something for a change and lobbied every local authority with a counter-motion defending aimed at defending the right to choice of independent sex workers.

If there wasn't a single pimp, brothel, trafficked woman, or underaged prostitute they would still be campaigning against the sex industry.

Considering the huge amount of people in the country that are against the criminalising of clients of sex workers you'd think that at the very least these boneheaded councillors would hedge their bets and try to see the two sides of the debate.

The problem is that when these debates are heard there is no one from the pro lobby there so the anti coalition have a clear field to propagate their distortion of the truth. This is why it is so important that escorts make a submission to the department of justice, one word from an independent escort is worth a thousand of mine.

You're dead right The Traveller. It would be very difficult for anybody to dismiss what they say so any escort out there please do a submission.
