German number plates. Why ??

Quiet a few cars on Irish roads these days have German style number plates, some even have a D where the IRL should be. Why ?? I don't get it .......

the letters are styled a bit nicer and can enhance a german motor,
but i agree whats the point.

i just like a stock plain plate. hated the way people would ruin
a car trying to be individual with anything other than stock, coloured slanted letters. yuk!

black ones can be nice, but not sure of legality. don't really like yellow plates on British cars.

I had a black car once, had black and silver army type plates, got stopped one day by undercover detectives in Dublin, they eat the bollix off me, said there was a lot of unease up north, they were on high alert and all they needed was some idiot like me to be mistaken as an army target and shot or blown up, needless to say I took them off and put on the normal plates

a) insurance in germany is way cheaper than here
b) as long as the car is not paid off it is simply a matter of fact that you can not put it to irish standards
c) its the beginning of school holiday days in germany....

You've missed my point. I am talking about Irish registered cars on Irish roads using German style plates. Nothing to do with Germany whatsoever.
