Err, naw.
We are however, absolutely jubilant.
I spent most of today in Holyrood with activists from the IUSW and Scot-PEP, followed by giving
The Highland News an interview, the main premise of which was that Rhoda Grant should stick
to championing the cause of Stornoway black pudding, which she would appear to know more
about. Her constituency is The Highlands, so that will annoy her no end.
GOOD.
It's not over yet by a long shot, she will be back in the autumn with a new consultation, so she
merrily informed a Daily Record journalist anyway.
The levels the anti's are sinking to over here are just breath taking, both in their arrogance and
blatant lies.![]()

P.S : She tried to fast track it through like her predecessor, the one and only Trish Godman, but the Justice Committee
voted unanimously against any such attempt.![]()

Ah...THAT explains everything...the "Wee Free" strikes again...(just for the benefit of anyone unfamiliar with the ways of the highland kirk, they would be just as eager to fast track criminalisation of dancing and baking bread on sunday)
Yeah, I noticed that, and nowhere more than in the recent attempt at a whole new:
"Why can't we just close the silly little legal loophole and be done with it" approach.

It seems to me that Alex Salmond (and his party) are intent on reversing and changing any bit of legislation from the British central government!!! Almost as a point in principle? Me thinks he fancies himself as braveheart?
Ironic given that the Scotish sex workers group came with with very good reasons why criminalizing clients would be very bad for escorts. (I don't have the link to their original document which came out a few years ago, but it had at least 30 reasons, if memory serves me right). But why listen to sex workers about what's best for them???It seems like we share a lot with Scotland!

There was a consultation on the possible criminalisation of purchase of sex in Scotland recently, by Trish Godman MSP. Can't find good links at the moment, but we should look into this and the submissions people made to it.
Good article Patricia. Thanks. It's especially powerfull as the mother of a murdered escort says she is thankful the law to criminalize escort clients in Scotland hasn't been passed, as she clearly feels it would make things more dangerous for escorts.
It's what most of us know and believe here, but it's all the more powerful coming from the mother of one of the murdered girls.
But will the anti-escorting lobbyists listen??? There's sweet f*ck all chance of that!!It's amazing how obstinate self righteous people can be!!
Empowering escorts to work on their own and not fear the law (which is what criminalizing their clients will further do), will certainly be an effective measure to reduce trafficking, coercion and pimping.

Is there any chance that a sticky thread be created in this section of the site so that links such as the one posted by Patricia could be collected in one place for future reference?
There is yet another article on theJournal.ie today - New laws on prostitution ‘must address trafficking problem’
