I've been trying to resist commenting on this thread as it's all too ridiculous and blown out of proportion. I even switched the computer off and went and did something else.
But there was one comment which I simply couldn't get out of my head and had to come back and re-read. And yes, it's still there. It's even highlighted...
IT'S NOT SAFE FOR A MAN TO PERFORM ORAL ON A WOMAN WHO HAS NOT BEEN VACCINATED AGAINST HPV.
Please not the correction I made. It is a vaccine NOT and immunisation. There is an important distinction. You can be vaccinated against something and still have it. Why because you may have already been a carrier. The reason that the HPV vaccine is targeted at schoolchildren is to ensure that it is as effective as possible and so is given BEFORE they are sexually active, usually when they are around 12.
Adults can be vaccinated, but it is far lees likely to be effective in the over 25 age bracket. So Stephanie, have you had a blood test to check your levels?
BUT (and here comes the zinger) what is it designed to protect against I hear you all asking (and if you're not you should be). It is designed to reduce the incidence of cervical cancers due to the action of the Human Papilloma (that's warts to the uninitiated) Virus amongst the sexually active.
So, how is it not safe for men (never met one yet who has a cervix) to perform oral sex on woman who have not had the HPV vaccine?
Cos I know that my risk is increased. It was increased the moment I became sexually active. Which is why I don't miss a smear. I have considered having the vaccine, but at @ £500 for something which may not take I'd rather have a holiday. I know my risks of many things. I know that many diseases we thought were consigned to history are back with a vengeance and are even becoming resistant to anti-biotics. So I keep a keen eye on my sexual and physical health. I take the sensible precautions. I keep my eyes open when I'm playing and I even mention to people if I notice something which they may not have that needs attention. I get regular check ups, I eat a healthy (mostly) diet and try to exercise.
But, just as the most road-aware of us could still get hit by a bus I don't deny the possibilities. Simply by leaving the house every morning I take risks. At least these ones I can educate myself about and choose my risks. I enjoy activities which put me in high risk categories and which (some) others consider distasteful. But that is my choice and I don't criticise anyone else on theirs.
But I will criticise scare-mongering and willfull ignorance.
Rant over, I'm off to play in traffic.

Yes, Rosalind . As I said again and again : get tested, if you test negative, get vaccinated.
YES I GOT TESTED. I TESTED NEGATIVE. YES I GOT VACCINATED. This is well documented on this very Forum :

For by god, I am at my wits end : HPV causes cervical cancer. It also causes genital warts. There are I don't know how many strains of HPV. The vaccines do not protect you from all the strains, but do protect you from the most virulent, most prevalent strains, therefore providing you with more protection than having no vaccination. It is recommended to prepubescent girls and boys because ideally it would be administered before any sexual activity (and chance of infection) occurs. However, that does not mean that it is ineffective in adults. Get tested. If tests negative, get vaccinated.
Now, onto men. HPV is becoming the leading cause of mouth/throat cancer in men. If the woman has not been vaccinated, she may be infected and be a virulent source of Human Papilloma Virus infection to whomever performs oral sex on her. If she HAS been vaccinated, there is still a minuscule possibility that she may have this virus on her skin from a very recent previous encounter and transfer it to her next partner.
" I have considered having the vaccine, but at @ £500 for something which may not take I'd rather have a holiday."
-- this statement to me is shocking. You know what, I would rather (and I have !!!) spent 1500e on my screens and vaccinations
[just last year] than put my own health at such risk. If something is medically preventable, I will always be the first to opt for it.
We differ.
Why are ya'all so reluctant re vaccinations ? It's modern medicine.

I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.
Current studies in the UK regarding the HPV Vaccine have only been completed on women up to the age of 26. Research is still to be completed regarding effectiveness on women over the age of 26.
I cant be arsed going back through the shite in this thread again, does anyone have a link to an actual medical or scientific journal or database where I can find one so I can read some stuff properly?
You are incorrect in almost all of that. Details found here. Its still experimental in adults and you cannot be immunised against HPV. Rosalind is entirely correct.

''Is there a test for HPV in men?
Currently, there is no HPV test recommended for men. The only approved HPV tests on the market are for screening women for cervical cancer. They are not useful for screening for HPV-related cancers or genital warts in men''

Hey Mr Disco x
Google : CDC HPV or CDC herpes, or CDC HIV, etc. You get the idea![]()
To the ladies :

" Will sexually active females benefit from the vaccine?
Ideally females should get the vaccine before they become sexually active and exposed to HPV. Females who are sexually active may also benefit from the vaccine, but they may get less benefit from it. This is because they may have already gotten one or more of HPV types targeted by the vaccines. However, few sexually active young women are infected with all HPV types prevented by the vaccines, so most young women could still get protection by getting vaccinated."
Yawn. I would rather get a vaccine that protects me from some of the strains than not have a vaccine and be wholly exposed.
Each to their own. I rather protect myself.
