I recently read a bit from the philsopher, Arthur Schoppenheur who wrote a lot on love. To summarise, he believed love was simple a trick of nature to get us to uphold the "will of the species" and reproduce. Attraction is simply us looking for a mate who we believe does not have the same shortcomings that we have, and we make our offspring better. The partner we fall in love with may only be the person we want to reproduced with, not the one we truly want to spend our lives with. This usually operates subconciously too, so we're not even fully aware of when it's in play and often end up married to the wrong people.

Not exactly riveting or new, but that's exactly where I believe the whole "sex: need or want" argument arrives at. It becomes a physical need at some points, certainly for men I think. Is paying for sex disrespectful to women, I would like to think not if it's conducted in the right way. As to whether it's unhealty or not in the long term, I personally believe that it is not healthy in the long term.
