I dunno Patricia, a bit of hypocrisy on the author's part.
I quote from her article:
On the issue of freedom, empowerment and equality — specifically how women dress — my feeling is that women should wear what they want but, before young girls go about deciding what they want to wear when they go clubbing, it might be interesting for them to consider this: there’s as much chance of catching a teenage boy shivering in "underwear as outerwear" outside a nightclub in Ireland, as there is of finding a boy wearing a burka in Kabul.
Bottom line: on the issue of freedom, empowerment, equality and dress: girls, just do exactly what the boys do on this one — don’t dress like you’re for sale.
She talks about freedom of expression and that a woman should wear what she wants - but at the end of the day she wants the final say (well in particular with regards to her daughters).
And the concept of dressing like you're on sale is a silly one. Everyone dresses up to attract the opposite sex (or same sex if that's your preference).
And unless she thinks that men and women should dress identically, she's got another thing coming.
Anyway, from all the "documentaries" we've had on escorting in Ireland recently - everyone knows that any woman wearing boots outdoors - is a prostitute!!! Just ask Paul Connolly!!

I take your point Pat... but I also see the authors point. I have a young girl just starting discos, and the stuff she wears, and all her friends, is risqué to say the least. But what can you do? To advise her to be more conservative will only cause alienation, and then you are rightly fucked…
We just have to live and let live… but yet monitor verrrrry closely…

I think it is up to working ladies to decide what they'd like to describe themselves as. Most ladies here identify as escorts and thus it is appropriate to generally use that word, but for the purposes of my book, prostitutes seemed like a better fit.
I do not consider the word 'prostitute' a bad word. Many ladies may feel it is not an appropriate word for them to call themselves, and of course all such ladies have the right not to identify as a prostitute, but I'm ok with prostitute here, and it's my book idea!

Boys I'm just noting that it seems like dressing like a prostitute is now a recognised look, and wondering if I can capitalise on this
I was just watching big fat gypsy weddings... They show off a certain gypsy style of dressing... This might also be what the author wants her daughters to avoid wearing, but it might be discrimination to say "don't dress like a gypsy". Of course you can discriminate against prostitutes.

Pat
Look - this is your site and could be banned for this but ...
Most ladies here find the word prostitute offensive. Associate it with street walkers, etc.
If, on a different thread I referred to someone as a prostitute I would expect a ban.
While I wish you well with the book suggest you look at how you truly view your client base and their values.

I am not going to ban you for saying this!
I don't mean any offence. My jokey book thread probably isn't the best place to continue this discussion, but maybe it is about time we talked about the "prostitute" word.
I don't view 'prostitute' as an offensive word.
Start a new thread if you wish to debate!
