Where was the dad?
He was watching films like The SAW from age 8. Why? Who was letting him see the films or providing the films? I used to freak out at Tales of the unexpected when I was young, but that kind of thing is going to leave a lasting impression. Who ever it was that thought it was ok to let him watch these films at such a tender age, does have to shoulder some of the responsibility.
I doubt it has anything to do with a possible absent Father mind. My ex kept trying to give my son Duke Nukem to play on when he was still at Primary School and I had to confiscate it.
Children that are still learning the difference between fantasy and reality should not have access to this stuff. He likely still believed in Father Xmas at age 8! Dr Who is more than bad enough.
I'm not justifying what he did, but it does make you wonder what kind of childhood he had, or am I the only one here who wouldn't let a child at Primary School age watch stuff like that?

I wouldnt judge. From an article like this it is hard to say what was really going on in that family.
I know of families that would be described as loving and non-problematic from the outside (or even by some insiders) yet there are lifes at stake due to lack of understanding and unfulfilled expectations.
The killer was just a kid. I dont want to even imagine what his short life must have been like when he concluded that this will be a thing to do.
I strongly believe if there is a problematic child, it is never the child who is the problem. A notion our society completely failed to understand so far.
My guess is that his mum was an alcoholic and they forgot to mention it in the article. That would explain it all.

Tales of the unexpected Kate?,that takes me back,I agree with you on the point of letting kids watch saw, hostle etc,I just think that he is a danger to anyone around him, some kids do not have to watch violent movies to be evil, knew a boy when I was growing up that was just that, how he ever got married I do not know, fact was he later tried unsucessfuly to strangle his wife was no shock to anyone who knew him.I still think this little shit should never see the light of day ever again.
