Have you paid the household charge or are you refusing?
Deadline day is today
I shall not be paying on a couple, well a few reasons;
1) I cringe when I hear ministers talk about "breaking the law and being tax compliant". It feels like a threat.
2) Phil Hogan is the most in-personable man, he comes across as smug, arrogant and a bully.
3) Confused as to how I am breaking the law by not paying by the deadline yet there's a late payment option? How can I unbreak the law?
4) 10e fine/penatly will come into play in Sept why not just see how it pans out?
5) And it's the big one Phil calls it a tax because he says the majority of people want to be tax compliant right? Well therefore I want information on what they have planned for this tax? How it'll work? Like I'm going to be fudged if it's based on the size of the house, the site value? And then I won't pay it and like before, I will be dragged through the courts, I will have the county sheriff breaking into my home to seize my stuff, I have been through so much shit that at this stage I really couldn't give a bollax.

I am not paying to show my lack of respect for the current government.
This tax is supposed to pay for local amenities. Why do landlords have to pay this? They don't live there.
I give the example of a friend, like many, his relationship split, the house is now rented, the mortgage is bigger than the rent, they are in negative equity and now being taxed for a house they don't live in. NUTS

I know it's hard to stomach the shite & not so veiled threats from the politicians but that's not a reason not to pay.
I think most people aren't not paying because of principal, they are just on the fence being opportunistic. I have yet to meet an Irish person who willingly pays taxes when they just may get away with it !
I won't pay because it's a very inequitable charge. I'll be fucked if I am going to pay the same as some fatcat living in Killiney, Dalkey, Foxrock etc ! We are told that it's a logistical nightmare to means test it, as with means testing child allowance. We are in the worst situation ever economically & these fuckwit, unimaginative politicians keep going for the low hanging fruit.
We have 4 million people, there are countries with vast multiples who manage to have equitable property taxes. Why are we so useless at this sort of thing ?
Also, anyone who bought a house in the last decade & paid ridiculous stamp duty should be exempt.
I hear that there is some lively activity at the anti household demo in Dublin today. 4 thousand & more there. At last !

What else is €100 these days ? A fill up at the pumps; a ticket to a concert; a jacket; one week subscription to this site for an advertiser.
This whole "don't pay" lobby comes across as a bit wanton to be honest. The household charge has been all over the headlines for weeks now and I'm fed up hearing about it. Just want the next thing to come along and grab the headlines so we can let it blow over and put it behind us.
The missus paid ours tonite. Im raging as i wanted to drag it out just to give big Phil a run for his money. This charge should have been introduced when times was good ..Bundling idiots .

It is unfair and not thought out.
Those who use local amenaties should pay.
Those who earn most should pay more.
This government is all about taxing the poor.
Tax on fuels, tax on heating, tax on older cars.
How come a new €50k Bmw is €160 to tax and a 10 year old Peugeot 206 is €90 per quarter?
Taxing the poor.

The whole "let's pay lobby" includ band wagon ministers come across as condescending using phrases like "The irish people are mature enough to understand" mature? seriously how condescending can you get.
100e is quite alot it's a weeks shopping, it's more than 50% of a weekly social welfare payment, it's 20-25% of a yearly basic healthcare plan, it's 2 concert tickets almost, it's blankets for the winter for the elderly who have the choice between putting the heating on or feeding yourself, it's 6-7 weeks of bus travel. You may might be rich enough to not understand the value of 100e but there are some people out there that 100e is ALOT
