There is nothing worse for the lying soul than the mirror of reality

Has anyone considered the hiring of a female solicitor to act as an official voice for all you independent ladies?
It's no use complaining here after a show like that is aired. The community must be more proactive.

What about getting a piece published on www.thejournal.ie, Ruhama have had their say there so why can't an independent lady do a piece for it also?

Senator David Norris said that he was in favour of legalising it and even though I know that his reputation is somewhat tarnished I still think it wouldn't do any harm to speak to him about it.

I posted links here to a thread on the Boards.ie website I happened to come across but did anyone here get involved in that discussion? I loooked at it awhile back and saw posts from Stella Marr and other posts from someone I believe to be an agent for Ruhama spouting the usual nonsense.

In the Sarah Benson\ Eileen Lang interview on Tom Dunne's show Benson acknowledged the existence of independent escorts, but she said the number was small, you have to prove her wrong publicly on that point.

    That's all for now. Goodnight.

a good post but unfortunately the will to change to speak up is simply not there rather we have escorts laughing at a situation that directly affects them- like a lot of situations in life too many sitting comfortably on the fence waiting for their colleagues to make the first move

We also have Ruhama and co. and their media friends poised ready to shoot down any escort who sticks her head above the parapet. I wouldn't say escorts are so much sitting comfortably on the fence. I would say it is known that if an escort speaks out she'll be called a pimp, a selfish greedy 'happy hooker', a liar etc, and have her life torn apart in the media. Even if some escorts would be prepared to take on that shit themselves, they probably have families they want to protect etc.

You've lost me? Escorts need to get out there, is that what you are saying? If so, what about their families etc, how can you expect them to get out there knowing the abuse they will get, the intrusion into their privacy etc.

I'll tell you what might help. If instead of the government funding Ruhama to harm escorts, it funded an organisation that helped escorts. Just imagine, instead of Ruhama giving awards to the Sunday World for journalism and congratulating Paul Connolly on his investigations, there was an organisation that held these tabloid reporters to account for their repeated abuse of escorts? Now wouldn't that be amazing?

When that book "Behind the Sheets" came out straight away Ruhama were saying she was a fake, journalists were threatening to expose her etc. This is what happens if escorts speak out whilst protecting their identity, they can easily be dismissed as frauds, they are still intimidated etc.

And before you say, get a spokesperson, do you know anyone with the history of a saint, who would like to stand up and get villified etc over this. If you do, please ask them to come over here and volunteer.
