Thanks, but that doesn't really solve the problem yet. I can't keep the list up to date because I don't have a good way to match the old profiles to the new ones. Names are useless since there often dozens of escorts with the same name, and escorts often change names as well. Those profile numbers were really the only way to be sure who was who. But that issue can wait a bit. I only update the list every couple of months or so. A more immediate problem is that it's now not impossible but quite difficult for me to update the escort locations. I did that by downloading the profiles of the escorts on the list, but the program which did that used the profile numbers as they appear in my records, i.e. the old profile numbers, to determine the profile URL.
I'm not sure the two problems I described above have the same solution. For the short term problem, updating the locations, the simplest thing for everyone would be a redirect from the old addresses to the new ones. That can be done entirely in Apache, without even running any php or querying the database, so there would be essentially no performance hit. At the same time, that would fix the problem of broken links on escorts personal websites. It wouldn't help much, however, with the problem of matching old and new reviews so that both get credited to the same escorts. For that I would need either a list of the old and new numbers for each profile, or the algorithm used to generate the new ones from the old ones.
I hope, as you say, we'll get there. But there may be quite a few steps on the way.
“I wish you wouldn’t keep appearing and vanishing so suddenly; you make one quite giddy!”
“All right,” said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone.
Any progress?
