It has been said before not only on this thread but the answer is regulation. It is a win win situation. If the business is regulated there are standards and checks that must be adhered to and are the best way to stamp out trafficking, there are benefits as regards escort safety too, Gardai are not employed to intimidate ladies, or question clients and the state can take a portion of revenue from tax etc. This is such a simple solution and is what we as a community should be pushing out. With proper regulation there would be no need for groups like Rhuama etc and society would change its views away from the stigma attached to the industry at the minute.

I have residents visa for ireland which give me rights to work anywhere in europe in case you are wondering how I am able to work there..
So the escorts register with the police the fact that they will be working as bona fide escorts and therefore they get some type of 'clearance ' from them.? If this is correct, the authorities are happy enough that the lady is providing escort services ? Who do the authorities think will be the buyer of these 'approved' services ? Have they arrested such buyers ? Can a buyer check with the police if the escort is 'approved' ?

My question was about the police in Sweden.

In Ireland, I have always felt practically 100% safe ( from the police ) in visiting a true indie ? Is this not in fact the case ?

Dear Steve I am not worried as guards are not going to stake out my apt as I dont see very many clients because for one my rate is high and two i am lazy and three i am mature and therefore probably dont have as much interest as a 19 year old will have.... Garda will be too busy watching known brothels all over ireland where girls are working 4 and 5 at a time in the same apt and being moved ever few days around the country... Garda are mainly lol men too and realize that you will never eradicate the sex industry nor will they want to... They will do what ever the press and the public demand of them..

A very clever political move, assuage the right wing, rehabilitate RTE for providing such "good" documentary evidence, divert political attention away from the economy, and make the Minister for Justice look like a hard working crusading minister. Victims of political expediency, both ladies and clients.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has complimented the makers of last night's Prime Time programme on prostitution.

Mr Kenny said the abuse of women by Irish men, as 'Prime Time: Profiting From Prostitution' portrayed, seems to be extraordinarily prevalent.

He said Minister for Justice Alan Shatter is looking at how the purchase of sex can be criminalised.

The Criminal Law Offences Bill should be published this year, he added.

The Taoiseach also complimented Ruhama for the work that they do.

He was responding to a question from Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin who said the programme showed how prostitution is a blight on our society.

That seems be an idealised vision. Groups like Ruhama will still be needed because there will still be ladies who are forced into the work, (either by desperation or by other people), and will be looking for help, support and/or a way out.
Do you really think society would change its views on the industry? I don't. We are a long way from being relieved of the image of diseased crack whores.
I do agree that regulation and sex worker registration is the way forward though.
