Thread: Ruhama talking to independent TD's today

  1. Default Ruhama talking to independent TD's today

That dictatorial crowd Ruhama were talking to independent TD's today. As we know they are trying to push their unacceptable law proposals. So it would be a good idea to keep emailing the TD's and senators plus make our voices known in other ways. Hopefully Turn Off the Blue Light and the Sex Workers Alliance Ireland can meet with politicans in order to put our case. Activity on our side will hopefully increase.

According to this article on Yahoo news, they have the backing of 80 TDs to criminalise the buying of sexual services.

    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/call-reform...174712007.html

The article refers to Ruhama as "Sex Trade Campaigners". That's disguting. They are completely "Anti-Sex Trade Campaigners" and should admit their agenda openly.

How many of those 80 use our services I wonder, I reckon between all of us girls on here and the clients we have seen who we know are are politicians, journos, gards, mayors etc etc we could bring the government down.

However we have to protect our families from publicity about us and also there is client/escort confidentiality too.

Criminalisation doesn't work in Sweden or Norway, it's just more discreet. If you have regular girls you see and carried on seeing them, stick with established escorts, make referrals to each other and we don't see guys without referrals that could work. Also if you regularly see the same girls you are not then buying casual sex we would be like gf's or mistresses and you would be giving us spending money.

I just can't see that criminalising it will stop it. I'm just wondering how many of you will stop entirely?

See this website, does it look like criminalisation has stopped men buying sex?

Hope it's ok to post this mods?

Does the Gardai honestly have any appetite for enforcing this proposed foolishness? Surely they don't want to have a silly investigative burden while they're coping with cutbacks.

I am obviously against the new proposals and TORL
But there is a bit in me that is curious of what will happen to the industry IF the law is introduced.
If it will reduce the numbers of sex workers advertising or if punters (in doors) will actually be arrested.
I hope I dont find the answers but I fear I will

Thanks your for your comments Georgie. I'm afraid the proposed legislation to criminalize escort clients will stop me punting. Most of my visits are return visits to girls I want to see repeatedly, rather than to new girls. And I tend to go for established girls (who in my humble opinion are working of their own free will). But none of this will matter, and I will just have to stop altogether. I will probably see escorts when I get the chance to travel in other countries in Europe where there isn't this proposed legislation.

Ruhamma have done their homework. They know that this proposed legislation will be a huge deterrent to clients. Many like myself have just too much to lose. I would lose my job, my friends and irreversibly hurt my family (parents/siblings) if I were arrested and charged for seeing escorts.

I agree with you Calidude. The Gardai have enough to be doing, let alone with the cut backs in their numbers and early retirements.

However, if the legislation comes in, I suspect the Gardai will try to make an example of a few punters and make a few well publicized arrests initially. And I certainly don't want to be one of those.

I was just watching the round up of the seanad proceedings for today, and there isn't any sympathy in our favour. All seem convinced by the Prime time documentary that this is the way to go forward. I fear that is a question of when rather than if. Apologies if I sound defeatist.

A video was posted on this site before - of the police in Sweden breaking into an apartment and catching the naked client and escort in bed together. Horrific stuff. You'd think they were breaking in on terrorists or drug dealers, the way they handcuffed and subdued both of them.

I suspect mobile phone records and your computer browsing history will all be brought into evidence. (And a punting phone wont be any good if it's found on you).

Then we will have to become friends and I will quit escorting for you (and few others). They cannot illegalise arrangements between friends (although as far as Ireland is concerned, nothing would suprise me here).
I always used to have several friends with benefits so what's the difference when these friends happen to be better off for change and help me out a little by contributing towards my rent? How can you put a law on that?
I might even be able to avoid the taxes if I lived like this. Win win!
