Default Could E-I be taken down for fake profile pictures

With the pending passing of the ACTA (SOPA Ireland) and the granting of new laws to copyright holders, namely the ability to have a website blocked from a country for copyright infringement without due process. Does this mean that E-I will have to become a lot more vigilant on what images they allow on their site.

No more will the excuse of being a directory be acceptable, from now on E-I will have to be 100% sure that the profile pics they allow on their site are the legal property of their advertisers as E-I will be liable not just the advertiser. If the government want they can get all Irish IPS's to block access to E-I if the actual copyright holder complains.

I'm sure this will affect the boards as well, as most of the porn posted here is not homemade

Interesting topic. I guess we will have to cross that bridge when we come to it.

Not really a biggie for E-I as copyright holder would have to notify E-I of infringement first, and E-I has and always will comply with valid copyright infringement notices.

That is true under the DMCA, not so under ACTA/SOPA. The particulars are woolly at this stage and I have written to Sean Sherlock and my local TD looking for clarification but it looks like you can be taken down entirely and your only recourse will be the high court at a minimum cost of €30,000.

There is no point speculating at this point, the final wording and details under SOPA have not been released or decided and at the moment and are under the discretion of Irish Judges to be confirmed to the general public when decided upon

True, under ACTA it is the responsibility of the ISP to act as Police, Judge, Jury and Executioner. Basically all people will have to do is complain to an ISP that people in Ireland are able to see unauthorized pics of someone and boom, they can swoop down and close access to the offending site. As the sites can be outside the jurisdiction of the ISP all they will do is stop people from visiting it.

So if E-I have a pic of a model up that is or isn't verified and the real copyright holder contacts Eircom, well you can say goodbye to all Irish clients that connect to the internet through Eircom

I'm not sure I get you, SOPA is an American law. We're talking about ACTA the details of which have been published. The final wording of it won't be released until AFTER it is made law as Sean Sherlock is using a ministerial order to enact this, subverting the democratic process.

Not only is there a point in speculating, it is essential to speculate. Otherwise we will wake up one morning and this will have become law via the back door.

Either way, this could effect us all if it goes through....even the boards as Monster has stated :/

If you go too Googles home page they have now a link to their changes in relation to privacy etc etc which will come into effect in March. Again it's just a way of Big Brother is watching.
