This law actually goes even further than ours does (US).

We can claim self defense if we fight off an intruder, but we cannot use force to protect our property..

(of course, if I throw myself in his way to stop him from getting out with my valuables, and he attacks me,

then I can fight him off, etc. But we cannot use force from behind.)
I take it thia legislation still does not cover it as protecting property if you decide to confront this intruder as he flees from your house?

Everyone will have their own definition of 'reasonable force' The more victims that take the law into their own hands the better. Why should you feel unsafe in your home. Butcher the bastards!! We have too much scum in this country time for a clear-out.

The only thing i see that will go against the OP is that he chased after them and then gave them a hiding even if he claims self defence.

I know a man who was attacked by a scumbag in his own house. He caught him in his back kitchen and during the struggle was stabbed in the back.Only for a neighbour happening to drop by and calling an ambulance he would probably have died. This fucker was caught and got a 6 year sentence but will probably not do half of that.
As for the OP the fact that he chased after this guy and hit him after leaving his house may well go against him.
    The Truth is out there.
