You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.

Not the stereotypical trafficked girl that Rahuma would have you believe is the norm in Ireland. They would probably say she doesn't exist! Good article QueenBee.
The senior Limerick Garda said "none of the women we have caught have been trafficked"... suggests that they are just pursuing women trying to get on with life!! I wrote a blog about this area recently... would link it, but I don't know how to - sorry
Exelent article it kinda blows Rahuma's standard mantra out of the water.
What it should do is move those action groups who say "we are dedicated to the welfare of women" into looking at how to support active sex workers and enable those who wish to leave the business a simple, dignified exit. This won't happen, because all the action groups are actually based on moral outrage!... so legal clampdowns will be the order of the day

It's interesting how this article refers to students turning to escorting as a 'new breed'. Many escorts are studying and this has been the case for a while, has it not?
"The only problem I've had is that sometimes they want to marry you."
Yes nowdays its very realistic..anyway some parts are quite interesting!
Good bye Ireland!
Good article, seems fairer than most of the other stuff which is generally just Ruhama PR, but at the same time the language and underlying tone is still pretty "victim'-based =
"the recession is driving a new breed of woman into its ranks"
"An alarming number are young graduates fresh out of college"
"Sadly, it's a lifestyle choice for them"
But overall, very good. Having the college sociology lecturer as a counterpoint to Linda Latham who's never met a happy escort and seems to think they're mentally scared, beaten and raped and not allowed wear condoms (wtf?) was good.

A reasonable article which does help dispel a lot of the myths peddled through moral outrage. The overriding factor in policy however is not the Sunday Indo, it is the Minister for Justice. Alan Shatter, from what I can see, will push the moral crusade more and more. At bad economic times it allows him to look like a hard working minister at no extra cost to the state. I suspect we will see a push to further criminalize sex workers and clients.
