    Question Bareback sex -- hallelujah

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AHH ! The title of the thread ?? Read on.. (I am NOT promoting unsafe practices.)

So, I was just reading the year-end edition of Time magazine and came across "Untold Stories" of 2011.

In the health section, found a 'story you may not have heard about : Good news on HIV and AIDS'..

Briefly : Man was informed in 1995 that he had AIDS and had about 2 yrs to live.. He started taking antiretroviral

medication, and keeping the viral load in check, has been able to live a normal life..

In 2007-ish he was diagnosed with Leukemia. Standard treatment /"cure" for leukemia is bone marrow transplant.

There's a small precentage of people who (due to a genetic anomaly) are immune to HIV. The oncologist treating the

AIDS patient had the brilliant idea to find a bone marrow donor who is immune to HIV. After two bone marrow

transplants the AIDS patient is "cured" of HIV/AIDS. 2011 was his 3rd anniversary of having no trace, no sign of the

virus in his body.. (as part of his Leukemia treatment he also received two courses/doses of stem-cell transplants.)

Cured from cancer, and seemingly cured of AIDS !!

So , after many discouraging disappointments in the medical research community, very promisingly it seems that there is

hope not only for a cure, but eventually also for a vaccine..

(this is a breakthrough, but no Magic bullet ! Even if proven effective, may not be feasible for some, and still will take

many many years to become commercially available [if ever]..)

So, here's my question : this probably won't happen in my sexual life time, but if there was a proven cure, would you

return to sloppy, juicy condomless sex ? We have various methods of birth control, have vaccine for HepA, HepB, HPV,

other STIs are testable and treatable with antibiotics (Gonnorhea, Syphyllis, Chlamedia, etc)..

So, having come into our sexual lives with the admonition of "safer sex" , and having had only protected sex,

would you change your ways ?

if 100% immunity is achieved against all STI's, why not? However, if it is only HIV, no way!!!

Steph- Many thanks for sharing- Always good to hear good news.

But simple answer is NO.. for pragmatic reasons, number one being Herpes- which you carry for life like heavy unwelcome luggage. Although there are vaccines for the Hep strains, in some cases it does liver damage before it's apparent etc. In P4P world the risk of 'normal' STD outweighs HIV by quite a margin ( just as in non-commercial physical interactions).

Imho, it's always Better to err on the side of caution!

see here lies a problem in regards other std

gonnorhea has now mutated strains which are becomming restain to treatment,
if a large number of people choose to opt out well it will cause stronger and more dangerous strains to mutate to the point of incurable,

aids has a low cases in ireland, but cylamdia is high, undetected can cause alot of damage and the cause of syphylis kill

hep a and b are vacainated but not hep c which is still a letal diease, passed through body fluids and urine and feaces... which btw reminds me of another thread there is blood in feaces, feaces is a waste product and can contain many red blood cells not mentioning those who have bowel conditions uclers etc just a fyi

if aids was curable and a vacinne and cure ready to all, bareback imho wud become more of an occurance, which is stupidty really as all it will enable is for other std which we deem curable to pass and mutant into stronger strains
ultimately putting a strain on already overworked health system!

and tbh the cure for aids and cancer has been long discover imho
why has it not been made public? simple money! the money spread on anti virals chemo etc etc wud cost millions if not billions to the pharacutecial companys!

i've know of many medical trials which wud be succesful abonded or made unreachable to those who need it why because it was too affective it sounds insane but money is king and pharcetical companys have alot to answer for!

plus with every vacinne u take and every antibodic there is side affects
look at the eldery for example on a medication for say bp (blood presure) with cuases problems with the stomach linings and acid and they take another pill for that which can cause problems with heart and it goes on and on until there taken 15tablets a day for one problem but to conteract the side affects...

prevention is better than a cure!

I didn't include in my query : private life or commercial transaction.. I should have distinguished between the two

Would there be a difference in your behavior if there was a vaccine for HIV ?

    On reflection, no.

Catching an STI could, I would imagine, be quite painful. Also, if I was a carrier, I would not want to infect others. If it was a case that all STI's were cured, then I would rethink my answer. Until that happens, nope.
