    Default Naas Border Patrol

Cllr Darren Scully (right) with friend at last year’s Cannonball Run rally in Stephen’s Green, Dublin.

I don't know if anyone has seen this in the news today but at lunch time Naas Mayor Darren Scully (FG) in a Kildare FM interview, has said he will no longer represent “black Africans” living in his area. Due to "aggressive" attitude and "bad manners" when dealing with members of the black African community.

Since then, Labour Party T, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, has said he is reporting the Councilor to the Garda under the Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred Act 1989.

So then what do you folks think? Are we just a bunch of knuckle dragging racists or are we charming scholars that just like to make a little "joke"? At the moment this story has made news articles in the UK, Spain, US and probably loads more countries.

Personally I believe Ireland to be terribly racist and not a nice place for many minorities, I have witnessed some things said by work colleagues and people on the street that would get a person killed in any other country. When you interject you are then somehow the bad person as the others were only "having a laugh".

EDIT: Just wanted to add in a text the TD received and put on his blog after saying he was going to report the Councilor
"Tha mayor is right what exactly are black africans doing in Ireland anyway? Playing the race card for all its worth and milking the system. You PC police really are pathetic pity you arent down here in Clare where your Dublin 4 values would go down like a lead baloon.'"

Heard about that alright. He is going to stand down over it. I'm sure we are racist but not always and usually only because some feel that they aren't getting as much because of immigrants. Which is usually just based on hersay

that's just another thing wrong with Ireland, he shouldn't be allowed stand down, he should be canned immediately. Enda should be out to the press in front of the Dáíl saying he's been thrown out of FG for his remarks and for refusing to represent the people he's paid to represent.

Saw that myself... He's not racist but he won't deal with black Africans... Sounds like a racist to me.

There is always 2 sides of this story, he said what he wanted to say. Maybe not all the Africans he dealt with were bad but he said it as he saw it.
