Default What happened to the EI server- anything to do with Indo article??

I know that EI's servers regularly go wonky... but I just noticed this article from Saturdays' "Independent Woman" :
    Confessions of a male escort
    http://www.independent.ie/lifestyle/...#ixzz1d2QCS1ea

... wonder if the staff decided to shut down for a while for tactical reasons.. perhaps this is just my conspiracy theory loving mind but it seems rather coincidental & the site been down for quite some time ( see post timestamps from today)?!

btw- in light of that recent thread about Privacy online etc- this line (from above piece) jumped out at me:
"I strike up an email correspondence with 'Patric', who says he's Italian. His emails come via a Polish server."
...I know very little about online tracking but if that journalist can ascertain this, I'm wondering if the guy had contacted her from an Irish ISP if the Indo could get a street address etc?

I would say that you've answered your own question there.

They can't - can only IP number assigned to your ISP, from which they could do a whois lookup and get name and registered office street address of your ISP. ISPs generally only give out user info under court subpoena
