But Carla, being an Italian woman, understands about men and the uphill battles they face on a daily basis to do the simplest of tasks......like getting their zippers to close and stay closed. The French people will forgive their elected politicians; after all they elected them in the knowledge that they are mere mortals. As for Italy, I will believe that Silvio has been arrested and made amenable to the courts when I see a photo of him wearing a ball and chain. Firstly, he is currently in a position to directly change or influence a change in the law. Secondly, we know he has sufficient money to buy loads of escorts, and as we know from the past in Ireland, escorts are not the only people who can be bought. Finally, if all else fails, he can retire to Sicily and hire a local organsation to protect his interests. When Mussolini went down south, he did'nt need his fascisti to protect him. Now with some Cosa Nostra insurance cover, I'm sure any judge, public prosecutor or witness will be made a generous offer........one that they would be extremely foolish to refuse.

Berlusconi, I would have to say is completely unique in the modern era, maybe other Roman leaders long before him would be similar but the man is going to be infamous for generations. It's more the fact that he controlled a large part of the Italian media while was head of government/state, makes Rupert Murdoch look like a pup. Plus he has all but gotten off and bitten his thumb at all those who attacked him. A legend of how power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Ahh Doozer, prison is for the little people........just ask the ghost of Charlie Haughey. Silvio would have enough money to put together a crack team of the best lawyers on the planet to drag out any case for a decade. Between raising objections, appealing rulings and buying off people, by the time he was actually convicted of anything, he would be that old and infirmed, that the judge, having received a nice fat brown envelope, would on humanitarian grounds impose some sort of fine rather than a custodial sentence. Even if he did get a few years, it would be more cost effective to tag him and place him under house arrest in one of his villas.......at least Silvio could then pick and choose and pay for those who would be minding him.......rather then the Italian tax payers. No doubt it would be an all female staff who would be "guarding" him.
