Default Online gamers crack AIDS enzyme puzzle

Now this is what I call 'crowd-sourcing'!
Joking aside this is awesome. Now if only we could all pool our resources to track down the best pussy in the Ireland... oh wait, we're already doing that
Perhaps we could do with importing the 3-D modelling system these guys used!

Online gamers have achieved a feat beyond the realm of Second Life or Dungeons and Dragons: they have deciphered the structure of an enzyme of an AIDS-like virus that had thwarted scientists for a decade.

    Nice one.
I knew it would be of some use !!
Otherwise it would just have been a waste of time

Way to write an irresistible thread title!

I'm predicting a very high read to reply ratio on this one.

LOL- imho, It's a worthy topic ..but I have noticed that if you're trying to introduce a 'weighty' subject such as anything science related, you're better off using a title along lines of
BIG OILY TITS ( New Cure for Measels)

I wasn't taking the piss, believe it or not. I genuinely thought it was an irresistible topic. However I note it has 4 views to 3 replies to I may have misjudged the demographic

Kudos to the scientists who decided to think laterally and involve more brain power! I wonder what they will try next? A cure for cancer? Let's hope this opens up a whole new way of collaborative working.

Indeed- but if you think about the EI audience, there's prob plenty of gamers & everybody is interested in knowing nasty STD can be cured- it's about the way any news is presented. If you've ever read Malcolm Gladwell or the Freakonomics series, you can catch folks attention for supposedly dry esoteric topics by putting a human face on things.. I learnt that last year when (on another forum here in States) I posted an article on HPV Research.. it got fourteen views & no replies in a 12 hour period... so I reposted it as:
Porn Star Offering $80 BJs in Mid-town Manhattan may have HPV,
remarkably(!?) that thread got over 600 views in first hour & ( despite a few whiners) started a pretty lively debate!
