Hi Laura, I think small, subtle tatoos can be very sexy! The bigger ones, while usually works of art, can look fabulous but I think some people go over the top. Certainly some men and woman go too far and it looks gross.
As regards the pain - I never got a tatoo so I don't know. I have heard it is painful - but then some people get pleasure from pain!!
I would suggest that you try a small one first as a trial - (a bit like dipping your toe in the water while out sexy fishing!!Haha).
Whatever you do go to a reputable tatoo artist - I would say plenty of people on the site here could give you a good lead on that.
