Just came across this, and I vehemently support the OP and the idea that in extenuating circumstances a Poster should be allowed to change his username. I do not see the argument form management on disallowing this in specially examined cases, and am amazed and concerned about this ruling. The observation that it would be an administrative burden is not sufficient response to am established member. Certain buddies of mine know my username, if I suspected, due to falling out with said buddies, that they may threaten to reveal my ID to family, the fact that my history is LOCKED into these boards is a very worrying one. I can only hope that when Sam says “Of course there are extenuating circumstances, but I've yet to see a case were that would apply” means that there is a situation when a longstanding member may be accommodated.

Imagine the scenario during a heated row in the pub… “Wouldn’t your wife love to know all about you and your little pastime”. Being unable to do anything about a pending text to my wifes phone like “Check this out… https://www.escort-ireland.com/user/jamescork.html... Jamescork is your husband” is rather disconcerting… and certainly would make one think about being prominent on these boards…

Mark has highlighted a good point and I must say I share his reservations & worries….

It's a concern, that the site seems to be inflexible on this.
Especially as Mark has even offered to foot the cost re time and effort. How hard is it to change a username really ? And just edit the username on his reviews to match his new name, then he can continue on with reviewing still having his old reviews.

As for opening flood gates ? Incurring a charge should help stop this.

Ah FFS, Jim will have nobody to blame if he gets burned by a disgruntled, drunken friend at his local.

OK, I'm gonna probably be shot for this but I had my username changed ages ago before there was an actual rule put in place to stop it, I had extenuating circumstances and Patricia was very kind to do it for me, it took a Pm and a reply 5 mins after to say it was done I had a small issue with my reviews because it took my new username as a new profile and for a while I had 2 sets of reviews but again, once NBT got around to fixing it as he was review mod at the time it again was sorted in a few minutes.
That said all these couple of minutes add up and if you are getting enough requests I could see how it would fill up your day..
