8k is not the kind of cash a girl wants to keep in her possession but maybe she had no choice. Not everyone has an Irish bank account or someone they can send the money home to.

Can you open a bank account in a northern ulster bank and lodge it in ulster bank in the south?

No idea as I don't have Irish bank problems. Chances are though if one can't open up an account in Ireland you probably couldn't open one up in the UK. I know nothing about the ladies in question, just speaking hypothetically.
