I agree that you must find he is genuine.

I wouldn't admit anything until I know what it's about.

However if it is something that you want to help the Garda with, you can do that. You could always say you visited and did not pay but just talked.

I don't know your situation. Personally I would not have a problem admitting it as it is not a crime and I generally trust the Gardai.
