A sad story that resulted in the death of a young man but this case was never going to go the distance, and everyone involved knew it, it was used to do exactly what it did, not to make an example of the two employees, but to highlight the system and the law..........

While I'm sad there was a like lost here I'm glad the two weren't convicted, I hesitate to say they weren't punished, I would say they were, and will continue to be...........

People constantly complain about living in a nanny state yet that expect the law and other people to protect them from themselves all the time, to take decisions out of their own hands and place it in others, when it suits them.......

Like I say, I'm sorry a life was lost here but people need to be responsible for their own actions also, even when it goes so tragically wrong.........

A very sad case, the beginning of which should not be overshadowed by the end.............

You don't post so often on here now mate which is a shame but you have summed up all the pros and cons of this thread in one post.

I feel that the barmanager/barman definitely have some responsibility here, as has been said giving what amounts to half a bottle
of spirits in a pint glass really is a recipe for disaster. Another thing was going on that hasnt been mentioned which was drops
of vodka were being put in his pints without his knowledge or consent, in a way this is probably worse as in essence it is tampering
with his drink which im sure if not illegal definitely is not best practice for a barman to engage in.
While as i said that i felt the barstaff have a duty of care i think taking a manslaughter charge against them was too extreme and
that some lesser charge could have been applied and might possibly have got a conviction on that ,where as there wasnt a hope in hell that the manslaughter charge would stick.
The guys family are now taking a civil case against the hotel for damages, will be very intresting to see how that works out
    Blatant promotion should be outlawed
