Fine for kissing in Europe?
The two men accused of indecent conduct in front of Rome’s historic Coliseum, have had a two month prison sentence commuted to a fine.
In July 2007, Michele (28) and Roberto (34) insist they were simply kissing when police found them on the Coliseum square. The kiss was amplified to “obscene sexual acts” by the police in question, which mobilised LGBT activists to organise a kiss-in in defence of the right to public display homosexual affection.
Although, the court’s recent decision is being respected, the case is far from closed. “We hope that simple displays of affection or kisses are not punishable offences” explains Fabrizio Marrazzo of the Roman Gay Center.
The two men will appeal the fine.
Would it have happened if they were heterosexual?
