This happened alot when I worked in a bar. If the shop is still open go back and ask them the reckon up their till roll. It should be showing 50 euro over.
The police will do zilch as the onus is on the consumer to check their change.

Eh the guy i dealt with was old enough and i got the impression he was the senior figure there but to put it mildly - he was a dickhead. As for ringing the gardai i had neither the will nor the time, they'd probably have taken 2 hours to arrive anyway. I never thought of the cameras, i know for a fact he never handed me the money and i'm about 80% sure he never took it out of the register.
Blah
Now... i'm off to watch the match - strictly blackcurrants and mi wadi's this evening

Really should of called the manager when you went back in. The tills will be balanced at end of day/shift, however, if he's on the nick the 50 will have been pocketed so the till will balance, if it was an honest mistake till should be 50 up.
Come in she said "I'll give you shelter from the storm "
unless they have the till monitored it could be difficult to prove unless you have witnesses,if he is on the take he will have palmed your 50 and the till will balance in which case its your word against his
