Hardly drink at all now since I went on a three day bender a couple of years ago after my dad died.
I was SEVERELY fcuked up afterwards and swore never again would I touch another drop and didnt for year.
Since then I have settled on a very rare and random few beers.

Alcohol is a very clever vice in the way that it may seem harmless but obviously causes much harm.

I however enjoy a drink. Be that in a club, pub or a glass of wine at the end of an evening. I have a grip on my alcohol intake so see it as no problem when part of a balanced lifestyle. I think up bringing is a big part of how people treat alcohol. Growing up with a grandmother who stated to give me wine at dinner (small often diluted glass) from the age of 13/14 kind of took the allure away from it so when I turned 18 I didn't feel the need to go crazy. At uni I see a lot of people who grew up in houses where alcohol was forbidden and now they are away from home and surrounded by cheap drink deals they go mad.

I think alcohol needs to be introduced to people from a fairly young age so they can be comfortable with having it around them without feeling the need to abuse it. Obviously this won't solve things in every case but it will go a long way.

Hangovers can be pretty nasty but weigh up the pros and cons, bad hangover the next day but thats offset by how cool you looking drinking.
I always feel cool with a whisky on the rocks in my hand.

Exactly the way I feel about drinking alcohol. Throwing up is not fun, it is quite weak in fact.

Good article. I think Ebony Amber is right, parents should take a mature approach to alcohol, something that can be enjoyed in moderation, whilst acknowledging it's dangers. I think that approach should be taken with most drugs. Education, as always, is the key.

I really don't like seeing kids in pubs, but there is a difference between the odd Sunday family lunch and the scum who bring there kids to the pub all day every weekend.

Parental alcohol problems can and do have a serious impact on a child’s welfare and safety.

it's not just Ireland that suffers/tolerates huge alcohol issues,
our neighbours in England, Scotland and Wales swim in it too.

just look at Corrie, Emmerdale, Eastenders and Fair City, we can see how
central the pub is to the various cultures.

(also a way of allowing the characters of soaps to interact with each other )

Everything in moderation I like going out at the weekends and having a good time but the older you get the longer it takes to get over a hangover and the older you get the wiser you get .

Personally speaking, started drinking at 16, drank every evening after work for 16 years. during that time got married had 2 children who was reared by my wife alone. Got redundency in 1984 and drank constant day and night for 3 years until money was gone. During that period i was in and out of mental institutions being dried out and also had 2 suicide attempts. Have not drank in 23 years but here is the important bit, just because i am off of it i do not begrudge others having a drink. Miss the social aspect but i personally feel that if i got all the drink in the world free i would prefer spending time with the beautiful LADIES on this site.Cheers xxx
