Hi Erika
I think you must be totally honest with yourself first and decide whether you really want to stop. Do you really believe smoking is dirty, unsociable and id likely to kill you ? If you really do believe these things that will be a first important step. If you dont believe these things but would just like to wave a magic wand and make it go away, then I dont think anything will succeed for you. Good Luck !

I've got 2 suggestions.
First try the Alan Carr book. A few years ago I gave up for 6 months after reading it and it didn't seem like a lot of effort. Let me know if you're not aware of this book and I'll send you a link. The reason I went back smoking is because I stupidly had one from a friend at Christmas and I was back hooked again. Lesson learnt is if you manage to get off them, never again touch even one.
Second, I began taking Champix on Monday. I can let you know how I get on with that if you wish but I'm quiet hopeful it'll work.

I know how ya feel Erika i've tried & failed to quit several times. Patches worked for me once but what always gets me is when i have a few drinks my cravings go into overdrive. I think you just have to really want to quit and try remove yourself from situations where you'll be tempted.

Hiya Erika
Yeah I second the Allen Carr book. It's great. The main buzz I got from it was to focus on what ur gaining by stopping smoking rather then what ur losing by giving up the momentary pleasure. I also started looking at smoking as just easing cold turkey symptoms as opposed to something inherently good.
So I stopped a few years ago but it took me many many attempts. Just keep trying. And when u do win remember to b very careful when in situations where u previously used to smoke. Because even now if Im drunk Im very vulnerable.
Best of luck
Daithi

i don't smoke but i know when you are dependent of something is hard to renounce. i eat a lots of sweets and i just can't stopp it. i am lucky to don't put weight on,but i think if i want i can, because all depends on you,on what you want.
so erika, remember: IF YOU WANT YOU CAN!!! IS HARD,BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE!

I've smoked since I was 11. Have tried willpower, patches, hypnosis, the Alan Carr easy way course (got my money back!) but have failed miserably in trying to give up.
The only successful reformed smokers I know are those that have had children - eh, maybe something we can work on?
