All I was getting was internet explorer cannot find escort ireland. Using Laptop on Vista/Firefox/Eircom. Its been ok generally this weekend with just a few hiccups today.
There are some people who still cant access it....
All you guys having problems seeing images. Could you let me know if the issue has gone away for you now?
We have a hunch that for some of you depending on how your browser settings are you may not have access to all the images. We've made a change which we think will help a lot of you out. But it would be good if a couple of you could confirm as we do not have any problems here with the image data.
Thanks
For whatever it might be worth if people are trying to help the EI IT staff to resolve network issues then a useful connection debugging sequence is pretty much as follows for cases wherein the browser is not telling you anything useful,
When you want to connect from anything (phone or laptop or whatever) to www.escort-ireland.com the first thing is to be able to translate from www.escort-ireland.com to numeric IP address. This is DNS. The DNS server you are using is generally provided by your ISP - you can usually (depending on device you are using) choose to use another DNS, e.g., google's free DNS server has IP address 8.8.4.4
On windows/mac/linux etc you can test if DNS address lookup is working properly using the nslookup command. If this doesn't give an answer then DNS resolution is the problem. In a command prompt type,
nslookup www.escort-ireland.com
and see if it gives an answer like 69.172.201.15
Assuming DNS is working, try to connect to the server www.escort-ireland.com on port 80 (http). You can use the telnet command (again available on windows in command prompt, mac terminal, etc). Type,
telnet www.escort-ireland.com 80
Look for a line that says something like "Connected to escort-ireland.com" -- if you get that then you should get the site to load in your browser.
If you don't then there might be a useful error message - take a screen grab or copy & paste the output and post here for the benefit of the tech staff who, it should be remembered, have just had a nice long weekend of work and stress - solidarity brothers
As the dude said, ping is blocked for many good reasons but telnet is just a straight connection and should work.

> nslookup www.escort-ireland.com
Server: 8.8.4.4
Address: 8.8.4.4#53
Non-authoritative answer:
www.escort-ireland.com canonical name = escort-ireland.com.
Name: escort-ireland.com
Address: 69.172.201.15
> telnet www.escort-ireland.com 80
Trying 69.172.201.15...
