unfortunately ber, as there are certain people on this site that think it's funnier to wind up others and try to troll you then post anything of interest, then you will be subject to this nonsense constantly. It's like the DON'T BUMP thread by NGAN, certain posters thought it would be "hilarious" to keep this on the front page, FFS even mods we posting in there as they wanted to piss him off, they should be fucking ashamed of themselves and stripped of their crowns.

Then when something of interest starts a lot of these people will try to go off topic asap, including mods or if real back and forth debate ever gets going you have one of them post something moronic like "can we all play nicely", FUCK OFF!!!!!

I have to agree. I don't even answer emails or text messages if the spelling is bad. It simply is a turn off.

I agree that the age of technology has definitely highlighted our bad spelling with predictive text and error correction built into most phones and word programs but I think we always had a problem in this society with spelling, technology has only exacerbated what was already there.

Most young people that use abbreviations a lot can spell if they choose to but what a lot can't do and it was mentioned earlier is use proper grammar and punctuations, you only have to look at "they're" or "you're" and how many times people miss use them and put "there" or "your" instead...

I'm not saying my grammar is perfect, without the advances in technology I too possibly would be terrible but as a whole I agree grammar and spelling is worsening but like I said already had a dodgy foundation to begin with..

It is a statistical fact that literacy rates are on the decline, a worrying trend. And all reasons above in this thread are valid.

I would not be too sure though if it's the standard of education that's at fault. I think it has a lot to do with the youth of today not giving a crap and maybe even purposfully not doing it correctly because it's "cool" to be a rebel. Texting does have a lot to do with it to be sure.

About those whose first language is not English. You frequently find that they have a far better grasp of the technical side of English than native speakers because they've had to study it as opposed to a native speaker who learnt it by sound from those around them. Grammer, punctuation etc. can be much better because it's more of a science to them that they've had to study.
