No question about NYC. Greatest city in the world.
The fact that 4 days is not nearly long enough should not deter you.

The Gods are just, and of our pleasant vices
Make instruments to plague us
I was actually hoping for this when I went, but it didn't quite turn out that way. Great city still, and I absolutely love Central Park: it creates a feeling that the city was build so people could live close to the park. But the segregation made me very sad, italian, chinese, irish, black, latino: whoever you are, there is a neighbourhood you are supposed to live in. The metropolitan mixture I was expecting just wasn't there, with everyone segregated into their own quarters. The only place where everyone is from everywhere is Broadway, but they are all just visiting. Still amazing restaurants, comedy clubs, and pretty much anything you want at whatever hour you happen to want it at.
In Europe I am a pretty big fan of Vienna. They somehow manage to maintain the dignity of their ancestry, and let visitors share a view of their amazing city, still filled with the beautiful music of yesteryear. It feels like a city that has graciously allowed time to add some elements of modernisation to it, without losing its heart in the process.
I still get a buzz after quite a few years of visiting NYC (live close by);
4 years isn't enough time to explore this place- it's the most dynamic city on the planet,
If you are coming for a long w/e just stick to Manhattan ( unless you take a quick hop over the Brooklyn Bridge).. if you get sorted shoot me a PM & I'll share some suggestions.
( BTW- My fav city to visit in Europe is Barcelona- one wild town but watch out for tea leafs)
