I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but you can't help your first impressions. And in general when I see someone swaggering about full of their own self importance, trying to impress, I am turned off them. But I have been proven wrong many times once I get to know them. Quite often they are just seeking attention. I am much more likley to be drawn to someone whose confidence and happiness comes from within themselves, someone who is not out to impress anyone.
Nick summed it up perfectly.

much better just be yourself and not trying to hide behind so many fake illusions of beauty.
Beauty comes from inside out for me.
