In general I agree that bumping old threads is annoying - generally people trying to settle petty differences over things that happened ages ago. Would suggest that threads are automatically locked after one month of inactivity.
However, thinking of older threads reminded me of these two;
(i) Lucy's skills at composing Limericks are,er, memorable:

(ii) some pearls of wisdom from a 'fallen comrade' (whom shall remain nameless ...):

Just a few observations about bumping older threads ( ..& I'll take your word about petty tiffs being used to justify it but...)
Many topics on this type of Forum by their very nature keep coming up again & again.. imho, for newer members that has (some) value even if the more experienced folks yawn when they see the title... but that said, for example- it could save people asking questions that have been answered before if they searched first & bumped the thread *if there was some novel factor* etc that hadn't been addressed before.
To give a specific example- I'm guessing there's been gansey loads of threads on "Punter Phones"- so it'd make sense to search first before asking & delve through the archive... but if ( say) 'Google Voice' were to become available on Irish cellular networks ( don't think it's available outside of here in the US yet but forgive me if I'm wrong!!?).. it might make sense to bump an older thread & include the new information so that the complete picture is available all in one thread? just a thought
