Northside / Southside divide ?

Just something that came up on another thread got me thinking.

How many Citys / Towns have a divide like Dublin.

And why ? Is it just a need to slag people that are from a different area ?

I'm not from Dublin but it always amazes me how annoyed people can get over being called a northside Knacker, or equally a Southside snob.
