A New Zealand brewery has offered to apologise in person to anyone offended by a controversial advertising campaign by the company that suggested low-carb beer is only for homosexuals.
The company, Moa Beer, drew criticism from the gay community for a marketing campaign which featured t-shirts saying ‘Low Carb Beers’ with a pink ‘Q’ superimposed over the letter ‘B’ so it reads ‘Qeers’ (pictured).
The t-shirt slogan sparked an angry backlash on the company’s facebook page, prompting Moa to initially respond that it didn't think too hard about the campaign and it was meant it to be taken light-heartedly.
It later added: "Thanks for your feedback on our tees. They were meant to be light-hearted, kind of like the way we hassle the boss for being bald. We asked some of our gay mates and they thought it was funny, but I guess we should've asked a few more. Don't worry, it's not part of a wider campaign."
Is this just a silly joke gone wrong or a stupid homophobic rant?
