So the meaning has now changed? so if u use this to describe a traveller then it is no longer derogotary? there was a docoumentary recently on TV about travellers and when they were asked they viewed that term to describe them to be
the same as using the N word to describe black people

To be honest, I've never heard this term used in any racial context. This word (from what I understand from where I am originally from) means testicles. We also refer to taking animals (mainly horses) to the 'Knackers Yard' as a figure of speech; please see this link as an example:

The term 'taking someone to the knacker's yard' is usually a cliche used to describe someone who is old and is of no used to society, although I have to say, I don't condone the use of this term myself.
