Doesn't the Social Welfare come out, and check that living standards are up to par?
Yep, so under funded they can only act if there is a report or if it just lands in their laps. Sadly this type of behaviour is likely to be on the increase as people get more and more desolate.
Well to be honest while i know most services are totally underfunded that is not the issue a balance has to be found between
protection of families and their right to privacy. Im sure we would have uproar if social services knocked on peoples doors and
the only reason was for a random checkup without and reason.I stand to be corrected but i dont believe this happens anywhere in the world

There was a whole pile of this type of stories this evening on Prime Time.
It was just sickening hearing how these people were left to fend for themselves from a young age, and the brutality they suffered.

There are a few major problems to this notion of selective breeding. Who gets to make the decisions one way or the other, what criteria are used and finally, how does one enforce this policy.
As we know in this country power corrupts. Give somebody.....politicians, civil servants, or some body this type of power over reproducton and it would be an invitation to social/class engineering where once again the weaker would suffer for the benefit of the better off. Enforcing such a policy would cause major problems and if you are going to try enforced sterilisation, Ireland would probably find itself in contravention of the International Declaration on Human Rights. We would have the UN on our backs, the International Court of Justice, Amnesty, the EU.......we would turn ourselves into the sort or pariah state that has'nt been seen in Europe since the 1940s. And what sanctions would you propose for those undesirables who sneaked off to procreate in secret?....fines?....prison?.....enforced abortion followed by sterilisation.
Even the one child policy in China has led to appauling abuses and it has been mainly females and the poorer sections who have suffered the most as a result.
Go read the history of the Third Reich and think about whether you really want to go down that road.
The answer is better education and better career/work options so that producing countless babies to ensure the receipt of state benefits is not seen as the best economic option available.

Well i agree with the general thrust of ure reply, but i would qualify it by saying that if u get a chance to be a parent and u
do not fulfill ure obligations then i think its not too extreme to say u do not deserve to be allowed repeat the same mistake,
u can talk about the right of these people but u must counter balance this by looking at the small totally defencless, person
that is totally dependent upon being cared for by these people, they also have the right to be properly taken care of

Of course they have that right Ber, and in quite a few instances children are taken out of the family home and placed in care institutions or placed with foster families. However, this solution works better the younger the child is. I've come across examples where removing the child from the family home does not the break the generational cycle of underachievement, dependancy and anti-social behaviour. There is no easy or quick solution to this......it's a long process involving a lot of support and investment in education and self-development. This week's budget will just set everything back.
An important point that should be borne in mind when criticising the social spongers and those who only want to take from the state rather then contribute anything is, what example have the major stakeholders in society/the state provided. People were once taught to look up to the pillars of society.....politicians, the clergy, gardai, the bank managers etc. They proved just how bankrupt they were in the morality stakes, so there is no longer a moral compass to set in front of the rest of society. Sinn Fein founded the state and Me Fein brought the experiment in self governance to a conclusion.
