I am now wet. Soaking. I just dug my car out of the snow, skidded back and realised this has to be the worst joke ever.

Did you know that on the 1st of October all Swedes fit snow chains or double width snow tires?

In Germany, where it is FAR WORSE, the autobahn is clear.

In England, people slept in their cars on the M25.
In Ireland, it is reduced to a skating rink
Yet this was forecast a week ago.

This is ABSOLUTE CRAP. WHERE ON EARTH IS THE PLANNING?

In response to your question all i can say is; you are now in Ireland where the only planning is how to maximise your income from the state with the least possible investment. Civil servants can't understand why people would even dream of trying to go to work in this weather. They don't realise that businesses have to open, that private sector workers don't get to take 40 sick days a year and still get paid for them. Their jobs are there no matter what happens.
If the government had to borrow billions from Satan to pay their own salaries they'd do it. Yet the NRA is doling out grit and salt to the councils like it was their own blood. That idiot Minister for the Envoirnment announced today an extra €15m for the councils - but you must realise that most of that will probably go towards paying wages and overtime, not on materials.
Services don't matter - salaries, golden handshakes, bonuses, pensions, etc do!
