This is a huge problem here. I know some fairly capable ppl who cant get jobs while some totally incompetent ppl do because who they know. An Post and the councils are frightening for this.

Yeah but they are a lot better off then Ireland is right now....FF couldnt even govern 4million people even with their gross abundance of tds, councillors and senators...its jobs for the boys and their policy is stay in power no matter what forget about the people, the public who work to try and keep the state going but are being financiially raped by cowen who is attempting to clean up his own mess of when he was finance minister.....with this crowd its party first, country second..

It has been that way for years going back to at least Haugheys time in power and maybe before that.

One of the few benefits of the 80s flight is that I have childhood friends scattered all over the globe. I am networking with them & may have opportunities in both The U.S. & Canada.
Yes other countries are suffering too but it's all relative. They will have some pain for a few years but we are fucked for a decade minimum !
We are the most fucked & for a change we can't blame the Brits on this one - Irish made entirely !

Yes we are definately fucked for the next few years because we will have to pay back the bail out that europe is giving us,im sick of seeing the same people in government for the last decade the only reason they stayed in power was because the boom was sweeping everyone with the good times and i guess people didnt give a shit who was in power so these fuckers were allowed stay in and grow fat off the wealth of the land but now they have finally been found out and hopefully their days in power are numbered..i know it wouldnt fix things over night but getting rid of them from the dail will be a start..but there is no one to replace them either...fg big land owner dynasties who only give a shit about themselves and who have no policies, the only line they run with it is saying how bad ff are ...no shit sherlocks we already know how bad they are...the greens a bunch of fucking yes men, wastes of space...sinn fein...enough said....and labour who dont seem to have any real policies either but are i supose the best of a bad lot....what we need is a new party that governs for the people alone ,has the people and the state best interests at heart not false bravado referring to yr patriotic duty and who are totally against the system of old....

Having been given notice of redundancy I now find myself set to leave my country again. I lived abroad for many years before but came back to my country to settle, buy a home & live amongst my own.
Alas I am a broken man though. The fight has left me. I have been very animated with my anti FF rants here in the past but now accept that my own people have repeatedly elected them & seem to at best accept schisters, liars, cheats, half-truths, rogues, scoundrels & cronieism.
I feel that I don't belong here now. I am an idealist, someone who hates all the above & have realised that FF are only a microcosm of this society & a reflection on us as a people.
I will explain this to my children when they are old enough to understand.
I am of the 80s generation that left almost entirely & now at 43 find myself looking to the greater English speaking world for my next domain. I doubt I'll return as swiftly next time.
I love this place & have always been a proud Irsihman but we are a broken people, a broken country.
This place needs to go back to 1922 & start over with people of real morals, ideals & who have both business & world experience. It's time to stop having fucking school teachers & family dynasties with none of the above looking after themselves & their mates, at the expense of all others. (the 3 most senior politicians here all inherited their seats from Daddy - Cowen, Lenihan & Coughlan - no experience of life before inheriting a very lucrative political career. 6 of the present cabinet are teachers - with all due respects to teachers, what the fuck do they know about running a country ?)
Amateurs all. But we elect them while still following some ridiculous, outdated civil war / family aliegences. The anger's gone though, the panic is ebbing & the acceptance is here.

Would be nice to emigrate but due to my age will need to be in my next life

Im playing it by ear and seeing how things go. I never believed in being so dramatically negative to be honest. I do think this mess can be sorted.

I remember the 80's and all the emigration. I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have to leave back then, and still remain one of the lucky ones that has a job now.

We all complain about the Government, and rightly so, but what alternatives are there?
But how many of us would consider getting into politics, and have the desire and qualifications to do the job.

If we want to change the current system and the cronyism that has been part of Irish life for 80 years, we will all have to voice our protest by getting onto the streets, or getting involved in local councils and force change from within. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening as we are all guilty of apathy when it comes to doing something practical about change.

I have been a Me Feiner for most of my life, and will continue as such for as long as I live.
Exactly what qualifications do you require?
would village idiot be the base?

Default Ah Westie, I can always rely on you to be the hurler on the ditch !

I am not being dramatically negative, I am being realistic.
You don't know my exact circumstances or just how my chosen industry has been decimated & I am not elaborating. Fact is I've had enough of this place & the sort of shite my apathetic compatriots accept from our public representatives.
They get away with it only because we let them !
Despite being a snide fucker I wish you well Westie.
